Meet Lori! Lori has worked for the City of Blue Springs for 33 years as of Oct. 8, 2022! Lori is the City’s Budget Analyst and spends many hours working to develop and maintain the City’s Annual Budget and Capital Improvement Plan.
Q: How long have you worked for the City?
A: I’ve been here 33 years as of October 8. When I first joined the City, I started as a Utility Billing Clerk in the Water Department. I then moved to the Finance Department and held the positions of Accounts Payable and Contracts Payable before moving into the Budget Analyst.
Q: Tell us a little about what you do each day.
A: I have two major projects that I am involved in throughout the year that require daily attention – the development of the Capital Improvements Program Manual and the Annual City Budget Manual. I develop the manuals with managers by reviewing budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) standards of presenting a document that meets program criteria as a policy document, an operations guide, a financial plan, and a communication device. I also prepare reports to help City departments monitor spending within their set budget and various types of analysis to keep the City’s budget on track.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: Knowing the City is fulfilling its financial objectives, concerns, and transparency for the citizens of Blue Springs.
Q: Tell us about a time you felt proud to serve the residents of Blue Springs?
A: I’m proud to serve Blue Springs every day when I come to work because I play an important part in producing a document for the citizens to be able to see the City’s finances.
Q: Tell us one interesting fact about yourself.
A: If I could, I would spend every day on the beach.
