News
Happenings
Around Town
A
monthly message from your
Blue
Springs Mayor and
City Council
|
Greetings!
Hello and welcome to
another informative
edition of News Happenings
Around Town, your one-stop
source for City
information and news
updates, including those
items most important to
you.
When I consider the work
that is currently going on
in our community, I can
think of just one word to
describe it, and that word
is "progress".
Over the last year, Blue
Springs has continued to
thrive in many ways. From
the efforts of our Police
Department, which works
hard to make our
neighborhoods safe, to our
Public Works Division
which is committed to
providing clean, safe
streets for our motorists,
we have an amazing team of
city staff and elected
officials that are
constantly working for
you.
Over the next few months
citizens can look forward
to many more signs of
progress including:
- Additional work and
development at Adams
Dairy Landing,
- Road improvements to
various residential
streets,
- Regular quality of
life activities and
events through our Parks
and Recreation
Department, and
- Various community
enhancements such as new
sidewalks in some of our
residential areas
In the near future,
citizens will also have the
opportunity to learn the
results from our 2008 annual
Citizen Survey which is
designed to gain residents'
feedback on the many
performance areas including
programs and services the
City has to offer. In this
issue of News Happenings
Around Town, we'll take a
look at how some of these
programs are working for you
today, and how we will
continue to offer services
that meet your needs.
As always, please continue
sharing this timely
publication and spreading
the word about what's good
and going on in the City of
Blue Springs.

Orientation
for New Board Members and
Appointees
On
Tuesday May 5, I had the
privilege of hosting the
City's first welcome and
orientation for new
Board/Commission members and
appointees. The morning event
was held at the Howard L.
Brown Public Safety Building,
and provided new members an
opportunity to be introduced
to one another, as well as to
members of City staff and City
Council. New appointees were
also given their oath of
office during the orientation.
Again, I'd like to welcome our
new Board/Commission members
and appointees, and offer my
thanks to City staff for
coordinating this important
event. |

2009
Fallen Officer Ceremony
 It
is my honor to invite
the citizens of Blue
Springs and surrounding
areas to join members of
our Blue Springs Police
Department on Friday May
15, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. as
they honor those who
have fallen while
working in the line of
duty.
The 8th Annual Blue
Springs Police
Department Memorial
Service will take place
at the Howard L. Brown
Public Safety Building
at 1100 SW Smith Street
in Blue Springs. This
event is always a moving
experience, honoring the
ultimate sacrifice of
those officers who gave
of themselves, for the
safety of us all. Again,
this event is free and
open to the public. For
more information,
contact the Blue Springs
Police Department at

 Signs
Installed - Hometown of
David Cook!
You may recall,
that exactly one
year ago, the
City was filled
with high
excitement,
celebration and
anticipation for
the return of
our hometown
hero and then
American Idol
finalist, David
Cook.
Following that
monumental day
on May 9, 2008,
the City
received
hundreds of
calls from fans,
friends and the
media regarding
possible
recognition
efforts for the
American Idol
sensation. I am
pleased to
announce that
since that day
one year ago,
much has
happened, and
the City now has
a visible marker
recognizing
David Cook.
Last month, City
crews installed
two city limit
signs
designating Blue
Springs,
Missouri as the
"Hometown
of David Cook,
American Idol
2008". The
signs are
located along
both the
east-bound and
west-bound
roadways of
Interstate-70 at
the Blue Springs
City limits. On
April 22, I had
the distinct
pleasure of
presenting David
with a
replicated
version of the
signs during a
media-exclusive
pre-concert
event.
My
congratulations
to David for all
his success and
his continued
effort to be a positive
leader and
rolemodel for
the youth in our
community and
around the
world.
