1. Who is my City Councilman?

The City is broken into three districts. Each District has two direct elected City Councilmen. To determine which district you live in please refer to the Council District Map

2. When and where are Council meetings?

The Blue Springs City Council meets at 6:30 pm on the first and third Mondays of each month for official Council Meetings for actions on legislation, in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building, 1100 SW Smith Street.

3. Can I watch the City Council meeting on TV?

All Blue Springs City Council meetings are televised live on CTV 7 (Comcast Channel 7) and on the City’s website. City Council Agendas, Minutes and Webcasts

4. How do I let the Council know what I want them to do about some City legislation or problem?

You may contact your Councilman directly to discuss the issue. The Councilmen are not full time, and do not have individual offices at City Hall, but do respond to messages and take calls at their homes. Any letter addressed to the Council that is received in the City Clerk’s Office is copied and distributed to each Councilman. The Councilmen are also accessible before and after each of the Council Meetings.

If a person feels there is the need to address the Council directly as a body, the Council offers a Visitor’s Section at the end of each Council Meeting. If you wish to address a Public Hearing item on the Council agenda, you will have an opportunity to speak during the public hearing portion. Otherwise, your presentation will be at the end of the Council Meeting.

5. What is an Executive Session?

Under the 'Sunshine Law' approved by the Missouri State Legislature, there are a limited number of topics the City Council may discuss without the presence of citizens or the press. There is the requirement for the likelihood that the Council might choose to go into Executive Session to be posted 24 hours before the action is taken, that posting to indicate what the subject is, so that anyone curious may determine that the subject is one that meets the State Statute requirements, and for the Council to respond to a roll call vote regarding the question of going into that Executive Session. That posting will be on either the agenda for a Council Meeting or the agenda for a Work Session and the roll call vote to go into the Executive Session will be during that prior meeting.
