1. Where is the Municipal Court located?

The Municipal Court is located in the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building at 1100 SW Smith Street, between Main and Walnut, under the water tower.

2. Is there a drop box for payments?

No, all payments must be made in person or via US Mail. Do not leave payments with the Police Department.

3. Does the Municipal Court accept credit card payments?

The Municipal Court accepts major credit cards, MasterCard, Discover, Visa in person only.

4. Is there a way to pay for a ticket without appearing in Court?

Some tickets may be paid without appearing in Court. You must, however, pay the ticket before your court date. If the ticket is not paid before your court date and you do not appear in court, a warrant for your arrest may be issued.

5. What if I need to change the date of my arraignment or trial?

If you need to change the date of your arraignment, you may contact the office of the Municipal Court at (816) 228-0175. It is within the Court's discretion to grant delays or continuances from the Court date on most cases. Before granting a continuance, the Court may require written proof of your excuse. If you need to change your trial date, you are required to personally appear before the Judge to request a continuance.

6. What if I do not appear in Court on the date set for my arraignment or trial?

A warrant may be issued for your arrest. If a warrant is issued, you will be required to post bond or be taken to jail and required to remain in jail until the earliest court date.
If your ticket is still payable, you may be charged an additional fee for failing to appear.

7. Do I have the right to be represented by an attorney?

Yes. You have the right to hire an attorney and have him/her speak for you in Court. If jail is the possible punishment, you may request a court appointed attorney. If you are financially eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you.

Do not contact the Office of the Public Defender. They do not represent individuals in Municipal Court cases.

8. Does the Municipal Court accept online payments?

No. If you would like to make a payment, you must either mail in your payment or pay in person, before your court date.
