First Lady Michelle Obama has called communities across the United States to join her in the
“Let’s Move!” campaign
. This program emphasizes the ability of communities to solve the challenge of childhood obesity locally by bringing citizens together to enact common sense, innovative solutions that empower families and communities to make healthy decisions.
Blue Springs is excited to answer the First Lady’s call to become a “Let’s Move!” city and the City Council unanimously passed a resolution on March 7, 2011 supporting the City’s designation as a Let’s Move! community.
The objective for “Let’s Move!” cities is to focus on one significant action within a 12-month period in each of the four pillar areas:
1. Help Parents Make Healthy Family Choices
2. Create Healthy Schools
3. Provide Access to Healthy and Affordable Food
4. Promote Physical Activity
This is a community-wide effort and we believe resident input is vital to the success of this initiative. After four Citizen Summits, an initial list of 8 Projects has been developed. For more information on these projects,
The City of Blue Springs has been fortunate to have previously utilized resident-driven visioning processes designed to make Blue Springs a better community.
StandUp Blue Springs
