The Blue Springs Public Works department maintains a 24-hour state of readiness from mid-November to mid-April for inclement weather. The personnel who work within the Streets division become first responders for snow emergencies. Additional personnel from the Utilities Division and Park Maintenance Division become residential drivers if we receive more than two inches of snow.

Training of drivers for snow season is conducted in October. They learn pre-defined routes turn-by-turn and equipment operation.

Each year our drivers compete in a local rodeo with our equipment. The top drivers from our local event compete in a regional rodeo hosted by the Kansas City American Public Works Association chapter.

We have placed drivers in the top twelve every year since the rodeos inception 20 years ago and have filled a trophy cabinet with trophies. We are very fortunate to have some of the best plow operators in the Midwest!
