Effects on Streams
We all live in a watershed and therefore play a very important role in protecting the environment in the associated watershed. The stormwater that runs through our property can pick up surface pollutants (especially in urbanized areas) which greatly effect nearby streams, which feed into distant water reservoirs.
In Blue Springs, the streams in our area all feed into the Little Blue and Missouri River, which feeds into the Mississippi River and then into the Gulf of Mexico. There is currently a "dead zone" over 7,700-square-miles where the Gulf and the Mississippi meet. This area cannot support aquatic life because of the pollution coming from upstream.
