Text to 911 service is now available in the Greater Kansas City metro area including Blue Springs.

This means the regional 911 system can now receive and respond to text messages sent from individuals in emergency situations. This service is offered to wireless customers with these four major cell phone companies: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon; however; If your phone plan does not support a text messaging feature, your text will not go through. Text to 911 is still being tested in some regions and the use of emoticons, photos, videos or copying others on texts to 911 is not yet supported. Though this new feature allows for more life-saving options during an emergency, voice calls are still the best way to contact 911.
