City Council calls for election to amend the City Charter
At the January 7, 2019 City Council Meeting, the Blue Springs City Council unanimously voted to call for a Citywide election on April 2, 2019 to amend the City Charter. The call for election follows the recommendations made by the Charter Review Commission that were presented to the City Council on December 17, 2018.

City Offices Closed Dec. 24, 25 and Jan. 1
City of Blue Springs, Mo. offices, Municipal Court and Vesper Hall will be closed on Monday, Dec. 24 in observance of Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday and Tuesday, Jan. 1 in observation of New Year's Day.

Mayor Carson Ross Hosts Annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 4
All are invited to the City of Blue Springs’ 2018 Annual Mayor’s Christmas Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, December 4. This is a free, family holiday event that will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will take place outside the Howard L. Brown Public Safety Building, 1100 SW Smith Street and the municipal parking lot across from the building in downtown Blue Springs, Mo.

City Facility Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
City of Blue Springs, Mo., offices, Municipal Court, The Fieldhouse and Vesper Hall will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23.
On Wednesday, Nov. 21, Vesper Hall will close at 2 p.m. and the Blue Springs Fieldhouse will close at 8 p.m. and reopen on Friday, Nov. 24 at 5 a.m.

Safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs on October 27
On Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Blue Springs Police Department and both Blue Springs Price Chopper locations will give residents an opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

On September 24, 2018, the City Council unanimously adopted the FY 2018-19 annual budget of $69,971,102 effective October 1, 2018. The Proposed 2018-19 Fiscal Year Budget is available online at www.bluespringsgov.com.

SW Major Road Closure extended through Sept. 5
The City of Blue Springs is alerting motorists that SW Major Road, east of Missouri 7 Highway to SW Tennessee Drive will be closed to traffic through Tuesday, Sept. 5 for road repair work, weather permitting. Motorists can use SW Eagles Ridge Drive for access.

The City of Blue Springs will be conducting a public meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Brittany Hills Middle School (in the cafeteria) located at 2701 NW 1st Street in Blue Springs, MO.

Cooling Centers Opened July 12-14
Blue Springs, Mo. – The City of Blue Springs has opened Vesper Hall as a Cooling Center in response to the heat advisory for Jackson County issued by the National Weather Service for Thursday July 12 and Friday July 13. On Saturday, July 14, the Fieldhouse will be open for residents looking to escape the heat.
Blue Springs residents can find refuge from the extreme heat at Vesper Hall, 400 NW Vesper, until 9 p.m., on Thursday, June 12 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Friday, June 13. The Fieldhouse, located at 425 NE Mock Avenue, will be open on Saturday, July 14 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for use as a cooling center.

UPDATE: NW 10th Street will remain closed through Monday
Due to unforeseen infrastructure issues, The City of Blue Springs is alerting motorists that NW 10th Street, between Main Street and NW Vesper Street will remain closed until July 3 for utility work, weather permitting. Motorists can use NW Walnut Street or NW Vesper Street to NW 11th Street for access. The closure was initially set for June 25-29. The City appreciates the patience of its residents during this road closure.
