The votes are in. After more than 1,800 community members cast their votes to choose the playground and splash pad design at Burrus Old Mill Park, “The Jungle” was officially declared the winner.
Voting for the playground and splash pad design was conducted through three different formats. Children in the Fieldhouse’s Summer Day Camp program cast the first votes, followed by members of the Blue Springs Fieldhouse. For the third and final vote, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation opened the poll to the community via an online vote last week. Voters had the opportunity to choose between a jungle-themed design or a ship wreck-themed design.
In all three separate votes, “The Jungle” came out on top. And after tallying all the votes cast, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce renovations will begin to install “The Jungle” playground and splashpad at Burrus Old Mill Park this Fall.
“Blue Springs Parks and Recreation would like to thank our residents for their support this past year,” said Dennis Dovel, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation director. “Without your vote of support in April 2017, improvements such as the Burrus Old Mill Park would not be possible.”
“We want to thank those who took the time to view and vote on the design for the new playground/splashpad to be installed at Burrus Old Mill Park. The new playground and splashpad is just one improvement occurring in 2018-19 to Burrus Old Mill Park. Along with these fantastic new play structures, trails, roads, and parking lots will be renovated and expanded and a new basketball court will be installed. A new restroom facility, new shelters and renovations to the skate park will also take place.”
The City anticipates an October start date for the construction of these renovations with an opening date in late spring or early summer 2019.
