The City of Blue Springs plans to join City of Independence in filing a lawsuit against Jackson County regarding recent property tax assessments.
On Monday, September 18, the Blue Springs Mayor and City Council unanimously voted to direct city staff to move forward with joining the lawsuit against Jackson County over the 2023 property tax assessment.
This action follows the adoption of Resolution 47-2023 in July where the City Council encouraged the Jackson County Executive and the County Legislature to keep the 2023 real property tax assessments the same as 2022.
A joint statement from the Blue Springs City Council reads:
“The Mayor and City Council are authorizing legal action to ensure the residents of Blue Springs receive a fair and consistent process for the assessment of real property in compliance with state law.
We feel it is necessary at this time to take action and represent the citizens of Blue Springs against these unfair assessments amid growing unresolved complaints.”
The City of Blue Springs will not be commenting further at this time as this is a pending legal matter.
