Eric Johnson was appointed City Administrator January 1, 2006, following the retirement of Fred Siems who served as the Blue Springs City Administrator for over 27 years. He is the second City Administrator in the history of Blue Springs and also served as the Assistant City Administrator from July 1999 through December 2005. Prior to joining the City of Blue Springs, he worked for six years for the City of Kansas City Missouri in the Office of Management and Budget, a Division of the City Manager’s Office. Eric has over 23 years of combined local government experience.
Eric has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Central Missouri State University and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia where he received academic honors when he was elected to Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
In April 2002, Eric received the Outstanding Assistant City Manager Award from the Missouri City Management Association. In addition, in 2002, he received the Legion of Merit Award from Mayor Greg Grounds for his leadership role during a severe ice storm that devastated many Kansas City metropolitan cities. Eric is a graduate of the 1999-2000 Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce Leadership program and a 2001 graduate of the Mid-America Regional Council Leadership Academy.
He is a current board member with the Blue Springs Economic Development Corporation, is a board member and officer with Midwest Public Risk insurance pool, current board member of the Missouri City Management Association, and is a former board member (2005-2006) of the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC).
